Commissioning of a HV battery cell coating line in Shenyang

Scope

Strama-MPS GmbH commissioned Faircom to undertake the turnkey implementation of a high-voltage cell coating line for a German automotive manufacturer at its Shenyang site in China. Faircom acted as a general contractor for the project and was responsible for all project planning, coordination and implementation.

As part of project management, Faircom undertook the planning for installation and commissioning and the line’s technical optimisation and conducted all quality acceptance inspections. One key element was the creation of an overall time schedule, which was monitored and adapted continuously throughout the entire project period. Faircom also coordinated all suppliers and provided construction site management locally. Project Management reported to the client’s management on a regular basis and ensured maximum transparency in relation to project status, risks and progress.

Another core objective was the smooth preparation and execution of the coating line production launch.

When the project commenced, the HV coating line was still in the assembly stage at Strama MPS’s Straubing site in Bavaria. Planning for the overall project, including the international rollout to China, was not yet complete. Faircom was entrusted with the task of setting up the entire project structure, overseeing its implementation and attaining all critical project goals in spite of the difficult general conditions.

The objective was the complete planning and execution of the project as a general contractor, including presence on site in Shenyang. Key priorities included on-time commissioning, adherence to all quality standards and a production launch according to schedule.

The continued COVID-related travel restrictions made it significantly more difficult to send German specialists to China. The end client’s management also assigned Faircom the key task of systematically applying lessons learned from previous lines – a crucial step for minimising risks and streamlining operations.

The project was successfully completed despite the challenging general conditions. The line was commissioned within the deadline with all quality requirements met. The production launch went as planned and the project was completed within the specified budget before being handed over to the operator.
