Commissioning of a HV battery module line in Shenyang

Strama-MPS GmbH commissioned Faircom to undertake the turnkey implementation and commissioning of a high-volume battery module line for an end client at its Shenyang site in China. The objective was to put the line into operation despite the COVID-related restrictions, meet quality specifications and ensure production was launched on schedule.

Faircom was responsible for the entire project management and construction site management on site, including planning commissioning and optimising the line, the coordination of all quality acceptance inspections and the continuous monitoring of progress following an overall time schedule. The scope of services also covered coordinating all suppliers and reporting to senior management.

There was a special focus on a trouble-free production launch in an environment which was highly complex due to global travel restrictions.

  • Sector: Plant and mechanical engineering/automotive (e-mobility)
  • Client: Strama-MPS GmbH
  • Location: Shenyang, China (100%)
  • Undertaken by: Waldemar Graf, Daniel Trautwein
  • Time period: 2022–2023
Initial situation

When the work was commissioned, the line had already been physically installed in China. However, due to the COVID pandemic, it was virtually impossible to deploy German specialists to the site. The project was significantly behind schedule and major delays needed to be addressed directly on site.

Project objective

The objective was to commission the HV battery module line on schedule on site in Shenyang and meet all quality specifications. A stable production launch also needed to be guaranteed.

Specific challenges

The COVID-related travel restrictions posed significant challenges for the project team regarding communication and HR planning. The delay in the project schedule required a great deal of flexibility, coordination and technical leadership skills from the Faircom team on site.

Result

Faircom managed to commission the HV battery line successfully. Despite the delay, the quality specifications were fully met. Production was launched according to plan and the handover to the operator went smoothly.
